Breath of the wild

Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture (Aba), China

High above the plateau of southwest China, the thin air has its own rhythm. Life beats to nature’s rhythm, weaving their own poetry.

Plateau has its inherent beauty, but what I saw was not only the spectacular landscape but the harmony of symbiosis, and the admiration for the resilience of life.

The wilderness, life, faith, hope... all things silence in the hidden and subtle folds of the earth.

Further exploration

  • I want to create a lake-themed installation responding to the ecological interactions of a region. The relationship of human beings and nature impressed me deeply which inspired me to make an interactive installation on it. I regard the lake as the heartbeat of the plateau, and there are some sayings that people can feel their karma through specific lakes.

  • The relection on Orientalism is a notion I want to further explore through interactive narrative. I realized that many citizens signify Tibetan regions as “exotic” and “serene”, however, they don't realize that shepherds are also eager to get away from the monotony of herding and live in modern buildings. In some way, the tourist's fantasy is the same as the West's exotic fantasies of the East, which is a representation of Orientalism.
